Euromed Human Rights Network's Panel Took Place in Nicosia PDF Print E-mail

Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Foundation Legal Officer and President of the Refugee Rights Association  Oncel Polili delivered a speech on Human Rights of Refugees in North Cyprus at the Migration and Working Group (MAWG) Euro Mediterranean Network for Human Rights (EMNHR) meeting on 31 October 2008. EMNHR is a network of more than 80 human rights organisations, institutions and individuals based in 30 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region and is established in 1997 in response to the Barcelona Declaration and the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. EMNHR has a mission to promote and strengthen human rights and democratic reform within the framework of the Barcelona Process and EU-Arab cooperation frameworks. In his speech Polili presented arrival methods, detention conditions, court procedures, asylum procedures and social rights of refugees. Polili also gave information about government policies, public awareness concerning  refugee issues. Finally Polili mentioned that there is very limited cooperation of international organisations and  local NGOs for refugee rights and called international NGOs to show more interest refugee rights in North Cyprus. On the same panel representatives of KISA-Action for Equality and Support, Center for Migration, Identity and Rights, Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies delivered speeches as well.
